Where the value usually is
The expensive problem is rarely a missing app
At 11 to 50 people, the costly thing is almost never the absence of software. It is two systems that do not talk, so somebody exports a file on a Friday and types it into something else on a Monday. Nobody has ever written that job down, and it has quietly become a person's afternoon every week.
Those problems are cheaper to solve than they look, because the answer is usually an integration rather than a product. They are also easy to miss, because nobody complains about a process they have accepted. The useful first question is not what you want built, it is which manual step everybody has stopped noticing.

Straight answers
Do you build from scratch, or work with what we already have?
Both, and the second is more common. Most requests at this size are not a blank sheet: there is a system that mostly works, an integration that does not exist, or a process running on a spreadsheet that has outgrown itself. Starting from what you have is usually cheaper and always less risky than replacing it, so that is the first thing we look at.
What do you build in?
Web applications in React, Angular or Vue. Mobile either native for iOS and Android, or cross platform with React Native or Flutter where one codebase makes sense. APIs in REST or GraphQL. Data work across both SQL and NoSQL, depending on the shape of what you are storing rather than on preference.
Can you integrate with the systems we already run?
That is a large share of the work. Integration is usually where the value is at this size, because the individual systems already exist and the cost is being paid in people retyping things between them. API development and integration with third party and internal systems is a service in its own right rather than a side effect of a build.
Who tests it?
We do, and it is part of the work rather than a phase you pay extra for. Unit, integration and end to end testing, with automated checks in the release process so a change that breaks something is caught before it ships rather than after somebody reports it.
Is development included in the managed IT plans?
No. The per user monthly plans cover managed IT, security and vCISO work, and application development sits outside them and is scoped separately. Worth saying plainly, because bundling a build into a per user fee is how projects end up under specified on both sides.
We have an idea but no specification. Where do we start?
With the problem rather than the solution. The most useful first conversation is about what currently happens, who does it, how often, and what it costs when it goes wrong. A specification written before that conversation tends to describe a system somebody imagined rather than the one the business needs.
